Heriz Persian rugs are produced in the homonymous village on the slopes of Mount Sabalan. The hardness of Heriz carpets is due to a significant copper deposit found on this mountain. Traces of copper in sheep drinking water produce high quality wool, very durable. This way Heriz rugs can last for generations. Examples of such 19th century rugs are often sold by major auction houses in the United States and Europe. Their designs are geometric with bold patterns and in the center dominates a large pendant.
